Abstract
This study aims to conduct a sociological examination of the life satisfaction and future anxieties among university students studying at district campuses, within the context of the massification of higher education. In this study, which utilised quantitative research methods, data obtained from 372 students studying at district campuses (vocational colleges and faculties) in the province of Konya were analysed. The “Personal Information Form”, the “Life Satisfaction Scale” and the “Future Anxiety Scale” were used as data collection tools. An independent samples t-test was conducted to analyse the data. The study examined whether student’s levels of life satisfaction and future anxiety differed according to the variables of gender, level of study (associate degree/bachelor’s degree), whether they possessed an advantage to include on their CV, and whether they had chosen their field of study of their own volition. According to the analysis results, students who did not possess an advantage to add to their CV and who did not choose their field of study voluntarily were found to have significantly higher future anxiety scores. In terms of life satisfaction, it was found that male students scored significantly higher than female students, associate degree students scored significantly higher than bachelor’s degree students, those possessing an advantage to include on their CV scored significantly higher than those without, and those who had chosen their field of study voluntarily scored significantly higher than those who had not. The findings were discussed in the context of the massification of higher education, degree inflation, precarisation and gender-based spatial constraints.
