Abstract

Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the effect of the Telerehabilitation Awareness Training delivered within the scope of the ISTER Project in Istanbul on participants’ telerehabilitation knowledge test scores. Although the majority of studies on telerehabilitation in Türkiye have primarily focused on clinical outcomes, evidence regarding large-scale educational interventions designed to support the telerehabilitation-related knowledge and educational needs of healthcare professionals and students remains limited. This study presents an evaluation of a large-scale educational program involving healthcare professionals and university students from diverse disciplines. Methods: This quasi-experimental study employed a single-group pre-test/post-test design to assess the effect of telerehabilitation awareness training on telerehabilitation knowledge test scores. All participants enrolled in the training module completed standardized pre-test and post-test assessments. The training was delivered through a user-friendly online platform developed within the scope of the project. The assessment instrument consisted of multiple-choice questions covering the definition of telerehabilitation, areas of application, advantages, data security and privacy principles, and examples of clinical practice. Results: Participation in the training exceeded initial expectations, with a total of 6,772 participants completing the program. Comparison of pre-test and post-test mean scores demonstrated statistically significant increases in telerehabilitation knowledge test scores among groups with sufficient sample sizes for analysis (p < 0.001). Post-test scores were higher than pre-test scores across all analyzed groups comprising healthcare professionals and university students. Cohen’s d values indicated large effect sizes in the analyzed groups. Conclusion: Increases in telerehabilitation knowledge test scores were observed following the telerehabilitation awareness training. The findings suggest that educational programs focused on telerehabilitation may be associated with short-term improvements in knowledge test scores. The results further indicate that educational initiatives in digital health may contribute to strengthening the telerehabilitation-related knowledge capacity of the healthcare workforce. Supporting the knowledge and digital readiness of healthcare professionals and students through targeted educational approaches appears to be important for the sustainable expansion of digital health applications.
