Abstract

This study critically examines the structural, institutional and pedagogical limitations of applied entrepreneurship education delivered in Turkish higher education institutions through the concept of "course-based entrapment." Following the integrative literature review approach (Torraco, 2005, 2016; Snyder, 2019), the paper synthesizes Turkish empirical and qualitative evidence with international entrepreneurship-andragogy literature around two principal conceptual axes and a connecting motivational lens: the causation-effectuation paradigmatic tension and Kolb's Experiential Learning Theory (ELT) form the two main axes, while Higgins's regulatory focus theory serves as the lens that explains this tension at the level of individual motivation. The review shows that current curricula remain anchored in causation logic, predicated on market predictability and rational optimization, while effectual logic, premised on flexibility, affordable loss and leveraging means at hand, is systematically marginalized. The study contributes (i) a paradigmatic re-reading of the entrapment through two principal axes and a connecting motivational lens, (ii) an integration matrix between effectuation principles and the four stages of Kolb's ELT, and (iii) a macro, meso and micro transformation agenda.
