Abstract
The aim of this study is to compare and evaluate the sociology of law and the views of Plato and Ibn Khaldun on the idea of law within a limited scope. In this way, it is aimed to make sense of the phenomenon of lawlessness and injustice, which is frequently mentioned in today's societies.. In the study, historical analysis method, one of the qualitative research methods, was used. Law is a phenomenon directly related to sociology. In fact, it emerged as a consequence of social life. From the moment people started living in society, they have encountered various problems. In order to solve these problems and to continue life, it was inevitable to establish some rules. The coexistence of society and the continuation of social and cultural life were deemed possible only by establishing a certain order. The set of rules that provide order is defined by the concept of law. Plato and Ibn Khaldun are among the most important philosophers who discussed the concepts of justice and law from various perspectives. Plato considered law as both the supreme good of society and one of the means by which those in power or the state organ maintain order in society. Ibn Khaldun, on the other hand, made explanations according to the types of societies, stating that all societies, from nomadic, hunter-gatherer life (Bedouinism) to urban life (Hadarism), have a certain law, whether written or not. At the basis of both ideas, preventing the disorders that arise from people living together, improving the quality of social life and ensuring justice are seen as the most important issues. It is understood that the understanding of justice and law in most philosophers, from Ancient Greece to Ibn Khaldun and to the present day, is intertwined with the understanding of happiness and the ideal state.
