Abstract
The fact that there were many politicians with cosmopolitan ethnic origins in organization and administration in Mongolian history draws attention. While Mongols are often believed to have relied more on the experiences and organizational successes of the Uighur Turks, the fact that Chinese viziers and bureaucrats were also active in this structure in the following period, especially after the Chinese domination, points to the sympathy for multi-ethnicity in the Mongolian administrative system. Considered a traumatic consequence of the transition from nomadism to settled life, this has facilitated the convergence of multiple ethnic powers within the Mongol state structure. In this context, Yeh-lu Ch'u, the son of a Chinese bureaucrat who wielded significant influence over the Han, undoubtedly has a special place within the state. What distinguishes him is his unparalleled power in governance, where no one could challenge him. Embarking on his career in the Mongol administration with the support of Genghis Khan, the Chinese vizier took even stronger steps during the reign of Ögeday Khan and carried out many reforms in political, military and economic dimensions.. Ögeday Khan's unconditional support for him in all his actions certainly had many positive and negative repercussions on Yeh-lu Ch'u-ts'ai's administrative identity.. This became particularly apparent after Ögeday Khan's death, as many bureaucrats of different ethnic origins, including Yeh-lu Ch'u-ts'ai, were marginalized and removed from the state administration. Viewed within this framework, this article aims to provide essential insights and discussions regarding Yeh-lu Ch'u-ts'ai's identity and actions within the Mongol administrative system.
