Human beings, as thinking and productive beings, have produced various works since their existence and have been led to reflect on these products and the world of meaning associated with them. However, the inadequacy of the modes of thinking and understanding used throughout the historical process gradually made it necessary to reconsider these approaches. This inadequacy directed philosophers to turn the orientation of philosophy from abstract principles toward human life and experience directly. As a result of this orientation toward human life, experience, and the products created by human beings, hermeneutics gained importance as a method aimed at understanding both humans and the products they produce. Because understanding the products created by human beings means understanding humanity itself. The roots of hermeneutics date back to ancient times. Nevertheless, especially in the modern period, hermeneutics enabled understanding to be treated as a systematic problem. In this context, it is necessary to emphasize modern thinkers such as Friedrich Schleiermacher and Martin Heidegger. This study aims to comparatively examine the problem of understanding through their hermeneutical approaches.

İnsanoğlu düşünen ve üreten varlık olması nedeniyle varoluşundan itibaren çeşitli ürünler ortaya koymuş ve bu ürünler ile anlam dünyası üzerine düşünmeye yönelmiştir. Ancak tarihsel süreç içerisinde kullanılan düşünme ve anlama biçimlerinin zamanla yetersiz kalması, bu yaklaşımların yeniden ele alınmasını gerekli hâle getirmiştir. Bu yetersizlik, filozofları felsefenin yönünü soyut ilkelerden ziyade doğrudan insan yaşamına ve deneyimine çevirmeye yöneltmiştir. Söz konusu yönün insan yaşamı, deneyimi ve ürettiği ürünlere çevrilmesi sonucunda ortaya çıkan Hermeneutik, insanı ve onun ortaya koyduğu ürünleri anlamaya yönelik bir yöntem olarak önem kazanmıştır. Çünkü insanın üretmiş olduğu ürünleri anlamak demek, onu anlamak demektir. Hermeneutiğin kökenleri oldukça geçmişe dayanmaktadır. Ancak özellikle modern dönemde hermeneutik, anlamanın sistematik bir problem olarak ele alınmasına imkân tanımıştır. Bu bağlamda modern dönem düşünürlerinden Friedrich Schleiermacher ve Martin Heidegger’in ön plana çıktığını söylemek gerekmektedir. Bu çalışmanın amacı, Friedrich Schleiermacher ve Martin Heidegger’in hermeneutik anlayışlarını merkeze alarak, anlama sorununu her iki düşünürün yaklaşımları doğrultusunda mukayeseli biçimde incelemektir.
