Abstract

Literature is a branch of art that has a human at its centre and is related to many branches of science. In this art, whose basic material is words, one should not be satisfied with just the dictionary meanings of words, their relationship with different scientific fields should be examined. In this direction, the words close and synonymous with heart (sine, gönül, dil) and heart were scanned in Baki divan, one of the important works of Turkish literature, and Interesting similarities have been identified between these words and the internal cardiac nervous system in the field of neurocardiology. Dr J Andrew Armour from the University of Montreal, with his study ‘The Intrinsic Cardiac Nervous System’ or ‘the little brain of the heart’, has discovered that the heart carries neurons similar to the cerebral brain and can learn, remember, feel and perceive independently with this complex system. In the research conducted, it was determined that the poet attributed the functions of forgetting, keeping, remembering to the words mentioned in some verses.Bâkî wis-hes to keep the memory of his separated beloved, or their eyebrows, eyes, etc., in his heart; to forget and remove from his heart the states that disturb him, such as sorrow, grief, and worldly concerns; and to remember in his heart the pleasure of the beloved's suffering, their hair, and their love. There are also verses in which Bâkî assigns the tasks of thinking, discerning, and understanding to the heart. In the divan, the heart is tasked with not contemplating thoughts other than the beloved, recognizing the deceitfulness of the ascetic despite the beads of his rosary, and becoming a scholar by studying the science of rhetoric. The examination of a divan written with lyrical purposes in the 16th century in the light of recently discovered scientific data can offer a different perspective to literary studies.
