Abstract
Beginning in 1946, certain nationalist cultural associations supported the idea of establishing the Association of Turkish Nationalists in Turkey with the aim of spreading Turkish nationalism to the grassroots, uniting Turkish nationalists under a single organization, and creating a more effective structure against all forms of foreign influence, particularly communism. Among these associations which received direct support from publications such as Yeni Bozkurt, Altın Işık, and Türkeli were the Turkish Culture Hearth (TCH), the Turkish Culture Studies Association (TCSA), and the Turkish Youth Organization (TYO). Of these, the TCSA possessed certain distinguishing characteristics compared to the others. However, this association, which is significant in terms of the history of nationalism and youth movements in Turkey, has not been sufficiently documented in the literature. There is no comprehensive, standalone study on the association. In this context, this article focuses on the founding and activities of the TCSA, which differs from other nationalist associations due to its perspective on Atatürk and the Kemalist reforms and the importance it attached to Ergenekon celebrations. The information briefly mentioned in the literature regarding the association has mostly referred to İlhan Darendelioğlu’s book titled “Nationalist Movements in Turkey.” This article aims to contribute to the existing literature by taking previous studies a step further, drawing particularly on the works and writings of the association’s founders, as well as periodicals and newspapers from that era.
