Abstract

Aim: This study investigated midwifery students' experiences and perceptions regarding the management of alternative birthing positions during the second stage of labor. Materials and Methods: A mixed-methods research design was used; participants practiced high-fidelity simulation scenarios in four different birthing positions and quantitative data were collected using various self-assessment and anxiety scales. Results: The lithotomy position has been evaluated as a position that reduces the mother's physical comfort by restricting her privacy and freedom of movement, making delivery difficult for the mother while only providing ease of application for the midwife. The highest anxiety score after the simulation was reported in the knee-elbow position. Conclusion: In the second stage of labour, practising various birthing positions with simulators reduced students' anxiety and improved their self-efficacy and knowledge of childbirth.
