Abstract

The food sector is one of the areas that causes a continuous increase in the general price level in the economy. Therefore, it is important to determine the reasons for food inflation, which lead to such increases. The aim of this study is to identify the determinants of food inflation for the Turkish economy. According to the results obtained from the Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL)model using monthly data for the period 2016:M1-2022:M8, the Consumer Price Index for Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages, which is the dependent variable, is positively affected by the Domestic Producer Price Index for Agriculture, Forestry and, Fishing and the Consumer Price Index for Electricity, Gas, and Other Fuels on the other hand, the Consumer Price Index-Based Real Effective Exchange Rate has a negative impact.. Moreover, according to the results of the ARDL Error Correction Model, which analyzes the short-run relationship between the variables, the imbalance that occurs in the short run disappears in the long run.
