Abstract

In this study, the impacts of digital transformation on the curricula and teaching techniques adopted in International Relations (IR) programs in Türkiye were examined from the perspectives of lecturers and students. This study aims to ascertain the digital transformation tendencies of 11 Turkish universities located in different regions of Türkiye. To determine the digital transformation trends of the chosen universities' IR programs, three basic studies were conducted on the curricula, the faculty members' familiarity with digital tools and technologies, and the instructional strategies used in the courses. Within this context, required data collected by tools such as curriculum review list, digital competence questionnaire and interview form. During data collection process, 35 faculty members and 102 students participated in the surveys and in-depth interviews were conducted with five different faculty members. The participating faculty members agreed that the curricula did not sufficiently represent the digital transition, as per the findings. It was observed that the perceptions of the faculty members regarding their ability to use digital technologies and their level of reflecting these skills to the education processes were high, and this result was supported by the students. When the results of the study are examined, it is found that in the 21st century, when the new global competition in the field of higher education is determined by adaptation to technological and digital transformation, the transformation process in IR programs in Türkiye has not reached the anticipated degree at the institutional level yet, there is an awareness of the need to update course content, but this awareness is not fully reflected on the curriculum and course syllabus.

Özet

Bu çalışmada uluslararası ilişkileri etkileyen yönüyle dijital dönüşümün, Türkiye’deki Uluslararası İlişkiler programlarının eğitim içerikleri ve öğretim teknikleri üzerine yansımaları incelenmiştir. Çalışma kapsamında Türkiye’nin yedi farklı bölgesinden seçilen 11 üniversitenin Uluslararası İlişkiler programlarındaki dijital dönüşüm eğilimlerinin belirlenmesi için ilgili programların müfredatları derinlemesine incelenmiş, öğretim elemanlarının dijital yeterlilikleri belirlenerek dijital dönüşüm süreçlerine ilişkin deneyimleri görüşmeler yoluyla ortaya çıkarılmış ve dijital dönüşüm süreçlerinin öğretim süreçlerine yansımaları öğrenci perspektifinden ele alınmıştır.
