Abstract

Aim: To evaluate the effect of visual feedback on the quality of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in Basic Life Support applications by paramedic students. Material and Methods: This was a single-group, repeated-measures, quasi-experimental simulation study conducted with 107 first-year Emergency Medical Services Program students at a university in Turkey. A CPR training manikin providing instant visual feedback was used. Participants first performed 2-minute CPR sessions with feedback turned off, then with feedback turned on. The evaluation data from both performances, recorded in the mobile application, were analyzed using IBM SPSS Statistics 29.0 software. Results: When visual feedback was turned on, the accuracy of chest compression rate increased significantly (from 85.55% to 97.09%). The main reason for this increase was suggested as a significant improvement in the accurate compression rate (from 78.57% to 96.86%) and a decrease in the average CPR hands-off time (from 14.77 seconds to 12.32 seconds). However, feedback had no significant effect on the accuracy of the depth ratio, compression depth (mm), and decompression sensitivity. Conclusion: Simultaneous visual feedback systems offer significant benefits in acquiring quality CPR skills by enabling students to instantly correct their CPR skills and providing objective performance assessment. These findings highlight the importance of integrating feedback mechanisms into the CPR training curriculum.

Özet

Amaç: Paramedik öğrencilerinin Temel Yaşam Desteği uygulamalarında görsel geri bildirimin, kardiyopulmoner resüsitasyon (KPR) kalitesi üzerindeki etkisini değerlendirmektir. Gereç ve Yöntemler: Bu çalışma Türkiye'de bir üniversitede öğrenim gören 107 birinci sınıf İlk ve Acil Yardım Programı öğrencisiyle gerçekleştirilen tek grup, tekrarlı ölçümlerle yürütülen yarı deneysel simülasyon çalışmasıdır. Anlık görsel geri bildirim sağlayan bir KPR eğitim mankeni kullanıldı. Katılımcılar, önce geri bildirim kapalıyken, ardından geri bildirim açıkken 2'şer dakikalık KPR uyguladılar. Mobil uygulamada kaydedilen her iki uygulamaya ait değerlendirme verileri IBM SPSS 29.0 programı kullanılarak analiz edildi. Bulgular: Görsel geri bildirimin açık olduğu durumlarda, doğru göğüs kompresyon oranı anlamlı düzeyde arttı (%85,55'ten %97,09'a).
