Abstract

The climate change we are facing today causes both extreme droughts and excessive precipitation in different parts of the world. This situation has revealed the necessity of controlling and storing rainwater. In this study, the development processes of the concept of rain gardens, design and planning criteria, and implementation were examined in detail by examining the examples made in the past. By analyzing the data, rain gardens were designed in the determined parking lot and green areas in Aydın Adnan Menderes University Campus. In the area, a total size of approximately 1500 m2 rain garden, including 6 separate rain gardens, has been designed, in addition to this, a parking lot for 360 vehicles has been arranged. In addition, upon obtaining financial resources from the rain garden design, 1 car wash station and 1 greenhouse facility were designed in the area. Systems have been developed that allow the water needs of these established systems to be supplied from rain gardens. As a result, rain garden designs were carried out to both provide a natural appearance to the university campus, to prevent rainwater from passing to impervious surfaces, and to store and use rainwater.
