Abstract

Purpose: The concepts of health and technology have been intertwined since the 15th century, and occupational therapists benefit from certain sources and applications of technology in rehabilitation processes. The purpose of this study is to examine the opinions, experiences and perceptions of occupational therapists regarding the use of technology in their professional field. Material and methods: The study is a qualitative research and the phenomenological design was adopted in the research. Purposive sampling was employed to identify the participants, and the study ultimately included 41 occupational therapists who had experience of working with virtual reality, telerehabilitation or assistive devices.Data were collected through semi-structured in-depth interviews and open-ended survey questions, with the interviews conducted via online platforms and lasting 30-45 minutes on average. The data were analysed using the content analysis method, and themes and sub-themes were determined. Results: The technology applications that occupational therapists have the most experience and knowledge to use are assistive technology, virtual reality and telerehabilitation, while the application they see as the most accessible is telerehabilitation and the application they see as the most useful is virtual reality. Conclusion: While technological applications make treatment processes more effective and accessible, their use remains limited by certain technical and financial challenges. In the future, the role of technology in occupational therapy interventions is expected to grow, and continued research in this area is crucial.
