Abstract

This study aims to adapt the Teachers’ Attitudes Toward Evidence-Based Practices Scale developed by Merle et al. (2023) into Turkish and to examine its psychometric properties. Evidence-based practices (EBPs) constitute a fundamental approach to effective instruction in special education by enabling instructional decisions to be made through an integrated evaluation of scientific evidence, practitioner expertise, and student characteristics. Conducted within a descriptive research design, the scale adaptation process followed the steps of translation–back translation, expert review, language equivalence assessment, and pilot testing. The participant group consisted of 210 special education teachers selected through convenience sampling. Results from Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) and Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) indicated that the scale’s two-factor structure—Attractiveness and Appropriateness—was valid in the Turkish context. The two-factor model explained 55.5% of the variance in the EFA, and CFA fit indices (CFI = .946, TLI = .921, SRMR = .048) were found to be at a high level. The removal of item 7 improved model fit. The Cronbach’s alpha coefficient of the scale was calculated as α = .916, and item–total correlations were at acceptable levels. The findings demonstrate that the scale can reliably measure teachers’ attitudes toward EBPs. The study emphasizes the need to expand the use of EBPs in the field of special education in Türkiye, to develop in-service training programs for teachers, and to implement legal regulations to reduce practical constraints. The scale is recommended as a valid and reliable measurement tool that can be used both in academic research and in shaping legal regulations in education.
