Abstract

The Yusuf Ağa Library in Konya, housing numerous rare manuscripts and printed works from the Seljuk period, represents a significant cultural heritage center. Due to its continuous use and high visitor traffic, the library environment is sensitive to biological impacts that may increase the risk of biodeterioration of the collections. In this study, an active air sampler was employed to obtain representative air samples for assessing microbial contamination. The collected samples were analyzed in the laboratory, and airborne microfungi were isolated. Results indicated that air quality ranged from moderate (310-320 cfu/m³) to high (530 cfu/m³) levels of microbial contamination. Isolation studies also revealed the presence of commonly observed fungal genera in libraries, including Cladosporium sp., Aspergillus sp., and Penicillium sp.. This study provides a preliminary assessment of the library’s microfungal profile and documents the environmental conditions scientifically. The data obtained are intended to serve as a reference and baseline for future conservation and monitoring efforts in this library and in other libraries and archival institutions.
