Abstract
Kemal Tahir (1910-1973) is one of the prominent authors of the Turkish literature of the Republican Era, renowned for his identity as a novelist. His significance stems from his grounding of all his novels in intellectual themes or issues in terms of content. Although the scope of his topics is quite broad, it can be said that he was essentially in search of a native form of socialism. During this quest, Kemal Tahir consulted various sources and, as a result, constructed an intellectual novelist identity. Among these sources, it is also possible to mention the intellectuals of the Turkic world and some of their works, which held a partial but noteworthy place. Particularly, figures such as İsmail Gaspıralı, Ahmet Ağaoğlu, Yusuf Akçura, Zeki Velidi Togan, Mirsaid Sultangaliyev, and Abid Alimov were of interest to Kemal Tahir. Moreover, during his trip to Russia in 1968, his visits to Turkology institutes and his brief evaluations of both these institutes and the intellectuals he encountered there demonstrate that his interest in the Turkic world was neither coincidental nor a passing fancy. This study aims to examine the influence of the intellectuals of the Turkic world on Kemal Tahir’s ideas with a thematic approach, focusing on his notes. Apart from the “Introduction” and “Conclusion” sections, the study consists of two main sections: “The Turkic World Intellectuals of Interest to Kemal Tahir” and “Kemal Tahir’s Encounters with Turkology Institutes and Turkic World Intellectuals During His Trip to Russia.” To substantiate the findings of the study, quotations from Kemal Tahir’s notes are occasionally included.
İncelemede yapılan tespitleri somutlaştırmak için zaman zaman Kemal Tahir’in notlarından alıntılara yer verilmiştir.
