Abstract

The aim of this study is to test the validity and reliability of the Physical Effort Scale developed by Cheval et al. (2022) in Turkish. A total of 444 students, 150 female and 294 male, participated in the study. The validity and reliability study of the scale in Turkish was carried out by following the stages of "translating the scale into Turkish, exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis, item validity and reliability". After it was seen that the data were suitable for factor analysis, EFA was performed to confirm that the scale consisted of two factors. According to the results of the Confirmatory Factor Analysis applied for construct validity, it was seen that the goodness of fit values of the scale structure, x2/Sd=1.729, CFI=.98, GFI=.95, AGFI=.91, NFI=.96 and TLI=.97 RMESA=.06, SRMR= .03 showed acceptable fit or good fit. Scale items were examined through item-total score correlation and the difference between item total scores of the lower and upper 27% groups. In addition, in the analyses conducted for convergent and divergent validity and reliability, it was determined that CR, AVE, MSV, √AVE and Cronbach Alpha coefficients were within acceptable limits. The results obtained reveal that the scale meets the validity and reliability conditions. FÇÖ was confirmed as valid and reliable in the sample of students of the Faculty of Sports Sciences. In future studies, it may be recommended to apply the FÇÖ translated into Turkish to different samples.
