Abstract

The main reason for conducting this study is that there are few studies that directly measure the social impact of sports on the individual. In addition to its physical effects, sports also affect individuals socially and psychologically. The aim of the study is to examine the social effects of sports on individuals in terms of different variables. A total of 660 people, 350 women and 310 men, participated in the study. The data was collected by two different methods: online by creating a Google Form and face-to-face by the researchers. A 6-question "Personal information form" and the "Social Impact of Sports" scale were used as data collection tools. T test was used for two groups and one-way analysis of variance was used for more than two groups. When the data was analyzed according to the age variable, it was seen that participants in the 27-36 age group had higher scores in all sub-dimensions and throughout the scale compared to other participants. In the analysis made according to the gender variable, it is seen that women have higher scores than men in the social capital and collective identity sub-dimensions. In addition, it has been determined that individuals with a better economic level benefit more from sports in terms of social impact. One of the interesting results of the research is that participating in sports as a spectator also has a positive social impact on the individual. According to the research results, it can easily be said that sports positively affects individuals socially in each dimensions
