Abstract
The purpose of the study; This study aims to examine the effects of consumer self-confidence, shaped through social change, on the brand love process within the context of the Elaboration Likelihood Model (ELM) within a theoretical framework. In the literature, the intersection points of social change theory (Homans, 1958; Emerson, 1976) and ELM (Petty & Cacioppo, 1986) have not been sufficiently analyzed, particularly in terms of their effects on outcome variables such as emotional attachment and brand love. In this context, consumer self-confidence (Zam et al., 2022) is problematized in terms of how it directs central and peripheral processing styles and, as a result, shapes the quality of brand love. Significance of the Study: The study integrates social change theory with ELM and develops a theoretical approach to the concept of brand love, thereby contributing to the literature. Research Methodology: The research method presents a conceptual framework model that integrates social change theory (Homans, 1958; Emerson, 1976) with the Elaboration Likelihood Model (Petty & Cacioppo, 1986). The conceptual analysis method was used to evaluate the mediating effect of self-confidence, which develops with social change in the persuasion process, on brand love. Research Findings: The multidimensional structure of brand love (Carroll & Ahuvia, 2006; Batra et al., 2012) is deeply intertwined with consumer identity and emotional attachment processes (Fournier, 1998; Thomson et al., 2005). Consequently, the theoretical model developed in this article offers a new perspective explaining how the socially constructed nature of self-confidence determines brand love formation through information processing pathways (central/peripheral). The study aims to provide original theoretical contributions to the marketing and consumer behavior literature and to offer brand managers deeper insights.
