Abstract

Humans are social beings and one of their greatest needs is to communicate. Although one of the main forms of communication is ‘verbal communication’, it is possible to talk about many visual, written and nonverbal forms of communication. Establishing communication is possible by perceiving the environment. People's perception of their environment starts with sensation. Then an image is formed with the realisation of perception. Images are subjective, they differ from person to person. In environmental psychology studies, the concepts of sensation-perception-cognition have an important place in explaining behaviour and these concepts overlap with the image-imagery-visualising hierarchy. Semiotics and imagery are concepts that are intertwined with each other. From this perspective, it is possible to talk about the triangle of imagery-environmental psychology-semiotic analysis. In this study, within the scope of environmental psychology, semiotic analyses of the tree imagery in the stage show of Jamala (1944 song), who won the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest, and the tree as a sign in the film A Thousand Words (2012) were made. Thus, the relations between the mentioned concepts were established and the importance of this relationship in communication was emphasised.

Çalışmada çevresel psikoloji kapsamında 2016 Eurovision Şarkı Yarışması’nı kazanan Jamala’nın (1944 şarkısı) sahne gösterisindeki ağaç imgeleminin ve A Thousand Words (2012) filmindeki gösterge niteliğindeki ağacın göstergebilimsel analizleri yapılmıştır. Böylece sözü edilen kavramlar arasındaki ilişki-ler kurularak bu ilişkinin iletişimdeki önemi vurgulanmıştır.
