Abstract

The aim of this study was to investigate the validity and reliability of the Turkish version of the Suitability for Short-Term Cognitive Therapy Rating Scales (SSCT; Safran, Segal, Shaw & Vallis, 1996). The scale is based on the evaluation of a cognitive focused assessment session using a certain coding system. In terms of content validity, 3 judges, specialized in cognitive therapy, concluded that the scale is understandable and its factors are important for selecting patients to cognitive therapy. In the following phase of the study, another judge group (N = 9) coded nine video taped intake sessions randomly selected from the pool of Hacettepe University Psychotherapy Research Laboratory. The Intra-Class Correlation (ICC) coefficient for the scale was calculated with the use of average measures method to determine the inter judge reliability coefficients for the data obtained from 9 judges. The ICC turned out to be .91. As a preliminary evidence of the present study, the findings point out that the Turkish SSCT has acceptable psychometric properties for clinical and research settings.
