Abstract

Next-generation mobile networks will also include sensing systems. Studies conducted in this direction have led to the development of a new concept called integrated sensing and communications (ISAC). Investigating the performance limits of ISAC systems is crucial for demonstrating how sensing and communication features interact with each other in terms of resource utilization. This study discusses the relationship between the bit error rate (BER) and threshold (κ)-based target tracking performance (probability of detection (PD) and probability of false alarm (PFA)) of ISAC systems using orthogonal frequency division multiplexing over frequency-selective fading channels. Thus, the BER of an user is investigated in the communication environment with sensing interference presented in the study. Simulation results shows that even when communication and sensing signals are integrated, there is no degradation in the BER performance of the communication user. Furthermore, target tracking performance was analyzed under various threshold values. The findings clearly demonstrate a threshold-dependent trade-off between the PD and PFA parameters.

Özet

Yeni nesil mobil ağlar, algılama sistemlerini de içerecektir. Bu doğrultuda yapılan çalışmalar, entegre algılama ve haberleşme (integrated sensing and communications, ISAC) ismi verilen yeni bir konseptin gelişmesine yol açmıştır. ISAC sistemlerinin başarım limitlerini araştırmak, algılama ve haberleşme özelliklerinin kaynak kullanımı bağlamında nasıl etkileştiğini ortaya koymak adına önemlidir. Bu çalışmada, frekans seçici sönümlemeli kanallar üzerinde dikgen frekans bölmeli çoğullama kullanan ISAC sistemlerinin bit hata oranı (bit error rate, BER), eşik (κ) temelli hedef izleme başarımı (tespit olasılığı (probability of detection, PD) ve yanlış alarm olasılığı (probability of false alarm, PFA)) arasındaki ilişki ele alınmıştır. Buradan hareketle bir kullanıcının BER’i, çalışmada ortaya konan haberleşme merkezli ISAC ortamında incelenmiştir.
