Abstract

The aim of this study is to provide a comprehensive reliability generalization of the Turkish version of the Posttraumatic Stress Disorder Checklist for DSM-5 (PCL-5) by synthesizing the internal consistency coefficients reported in studies published between 2021 and 2025 using a meta-analytic approach. As a result of the literature review, 19 independent studies that met the inclusion criteria were included in the analysis. The findings indicate that the pooled overall Cronbach’s alpha coefficient for the PCL-5 is 0.94 and that the scale demonstrates excellent internal consistency. In meta-regression analyses conducted to examine the sources of the high heterogeneity observed among the studies, mean age of the sample and the method of scale administration were found to be significant moderators of reliability. The Egger regression test, conducted to assess publication bias, revealed no statistically significant asymmetry in the funnel plot. Furthermore, the calculated Rosenthal’s fail-safe N confirmed that the high reliability finding was robust to publication bias. The leave-one-out analysis confirmed that individual studies unduly influenced the overall result. In conclusion, the PCL-5 is a highly reliable measurement tool across different samples; however, age and scale administration methods should be considered important contextual variables affecting reliability.
