Abstract
The Turkish white goods sector is one of the leading sectors in the Turkish economy with regard to its contribution to both production and employment as well as exports The Turkish white goods sector, which relied on assembly production in the mid-1950s when it first started production, is now a sector with globally recognized brands producing high-value-added products. The white goods industry in Türkiye is the second-largest white goods producer in the world after China and the first in Europe. 75% of the total production is exported in terms of quantity. This study aims to examine the competitiveness of the white goods sector and its 6 sub-sectors (household refrigerators, household deep-freezers, household dishwashing machines, clothes-drying machines, household dishwashers, ovens, microwave ovens and other cookers), which have an important place in the Turkish economy for the period between 2013 and 2022, and to reveal the foreign trade structure of the sector. Unlike other studies in the literature, this study provides a detailed analysis of Türkiye’s level of competitiveness against rival countries in white goods and sub-product groups. The leading exporting competitor countries in the sub-product groups of the white goods sector are determined separately for each sub-product group.. The study used the revealed Comparative Advantage (RCA) Index and Trade Balance Index (TBI). As a result of the calculations, it has been determined that Türikye is a net exporter with high competitiveness in the white goods sector and its sub-sectors. Türkiye is the only country with strong competitiveness in all white goods sub-product groups. In this respect, Türkiye is positively differentiated among the countries that stand out in global white goods sub-product group exports. It is observed that Poland stands out among the countries with a strong level of competition in the global white goods market together with Türkiye.
Toplam üretim miktarının %75’i ihraç edilmektedir.
