Abstract

In the study, it is aimed to determine the anxiety literacy levels of individuals and to examine them in terms of sociodemographic variables. The cross-sectional study data are collected between January and March 2024 using the anxiety literacy scale and sociodemographic data form. Face-to-face and online surveys are conducted with 245 people aged 18 years and over who are reached by convenience sampling. In line with the participants' responses to the anxiety literacy scale, it is concluded that less than half of the sample has sufficient knowledge about anxiety, with a mean of 10.11 (45.97%) over 22 items. In addition, significant relationships are found between the variables of gender, educational status, the presence of people with mental illness in the immediate environment and anxiety literacy. No significant relationship is found between anxiety literacy and age, marital status, monthly income and having a diagnosis of COVID-19. The results of the study show that the general population does not have sufficient knowledge and awareness about anxiety. In the context of anxiety literacy, it is recommended to organize appropriate mental health training for the whole society, especially disadvantaged groups, and to measure the effectiveness of mental health policies in future studies.
