Abstract

Due to various reasons such as rapidly increasing industrialization, use of harmful fuels, waste problems, globalisation, climate change and unconsciousness, the damage given to the environment is becoming increasingly widespread throughout the world. The impact that individuals create on the environment is generally called the ecological footprint. Therefore, the ecological footprint and environmental costs increase because of the damage in the environment. Environmental costs are also the main area of interest of environmental accounting. Due to the rapid spread and benefit of digitalization in every field, the aim of the study is determined as the investigation of the effect of digital literacy on ecological footprint awareness. In line with the purpose of the study, a survey is conducted on a total of 403 university students studying at associate, undergraduate and postgraduate levels in the province of Isparta. According to the basic results of the research, it is determined that the ability to use digital applications and digital awareness affect environmental awareness, energy saving and clean energy awareness. It is thought that environmental costs will decrease as a result of the increase in environmental awareness, energy saving and clean energy awareness.

Özet

Dünya genelinde hızla artan sanayileşme, zararlı yakıtların kullanımı, atıksal problemler, küreselleşme, iklim değişikliği ve bilinçsizlik gibi çeşitli nedenlerden ötürü çevreye verilen zarar giderek yaygınlaşmaktadır. Bireylerin çevre üzerinde oluşturdukları etki genel itibariyle ekolojik ayak izi olarak adlandırılmaktadır. Dolayısıyla çevrede meydana gelen zarar neticesinde ekolojik ayak izi ve çevre maliyetleri artmaktadır. Çevre maliyetleri de çevre muhasebesinin temel ilgi alanını oluşturmaktadır. Dijitalleşmenin her alanda hızla yaygınlaşması ve fayda sağlaması nedeniyle bu çalışmanın amacı dijital okuryazarlığın ekolojik ayak izi farkındalığına etkisinin araştırılması olarak belirlenmiştir. Çalışmanın amacı doğrultusunda Isparta’da ön lisans, lisans ve lisans üstü düzeyinde eğitim gören toplam 403 üniversite öğrencisine yönelik bir anket uygulaması gerçekleştirilmiştir. Yapılan araştırmanın temel sonuçlarına göre, dijital uygulamaları kullanma becerisinin ve dijital farkındalığın çevresel bilince, enerji tasarrufuna ve temiz enerji farkındalığına etki ettiği tespit edilmiştir. Çevresel bilincin, enerji tasarrufunun ve temiz enerji farkındalığının artması sonucunda da çevresel maliyetlerin azalacağı düşünülmektedir.
