Abstract

Rosa damascena, commonly known as “Isparta gülü” in Turkey, is a plant of significant medicinal and economic importance. In this study, the leaf anatomy of R. damascena was examined. For anatomical analyses, both transverse and surface sections of the leaves were examined under a light microscope using Sartur reagent. The leaf was found to be dorsiventral and hypostomatic. Simple, unicellular trichomes were observed on the abaxial surface of the leaf. The stomata were identified as being of the anomocytic type. The anticlinal walls of the adaxial epidermal cells were undulate, while those of the abaxial epidermis cells were sinuate. Druse and prismatic crystals were identified in the mesophyll tissue. The findings obtained in this study are consistent with the general leaf anatomical characteristics previously reported for Rosa species. It is anticipated that these results will serve as a valuable reference for future anatomical investigations on Rosa taxa.
