Abstract

Verticillium dahliae is one of the most important plant pathogens in cotton. This study was aimed to evaluate the effects of Trichoderma afroharzianum, and T. guizhouense treatments on Verticillium wilt in cotton plants under saline stress conditions. Results in Petri dishes showed that the three T. afroharzianum isolates (Tr125, Tr28 and Tr55) were determined to be tolerant to high salt concentration (250 mM). The spore suspension of T. afroharzianum (1×108 conidia ml-1 soil) was previously inoculated in mixture of sterile soil and sand. V. dahliae (1×106 conidia g-1 soil) was infected simultaneously with cotton seed sowing. Sodium chloride (NaCl) was applied to the pots by adding 100 mM through irrigation when the cotton seedlings growth two true leaves. The phenotypic development of the treated cotton plants was monitored over three months. Also, the disease incidence of V.dahliae with salinity in cotton seedling were investigated. Results of pot trials showed that T. afroharzianum Tr125 exhibited the highest disease prevention rate (79%) against V.dahliae as compared to the other isolates under salinity stress. There was an increase in plant fresh weight (15.61 g/plant), root weight (3.52 g/plant), root length (17.67 cm/plant) in treatments with Tr125 as compared to the control of containing NaCl. The highest plant length was determined in T. afroharzianum Tr28 (26.80 cm/plant). The results of the our study demonstrate that Trichoderma afroharzianum Tr125 have potential for the management of Verticillium wilt disease under saline soils when cultivating cotton. As a result, enhancing tolerance to Verticillium wilt under salt stress can be achieved by Trichoderma treatment added with cultural pratices can boost the controlling strategies that improvement the parameters of plant growth. Salt-induced changes in both hydraulic and chemical properties of cotton were effected on boll biomass may lead to a loses of sustained yield.

Saksı denemelerinin sonuçları, tuzluluk stresi altında T. afroharzianum Tr125'in diğer izolatlarla karşılaştırıldığında V. dahliae'nin en yüksek hastalık engelleme oranı (%79) gösterdiğini ortaya koymuştur.
