Abstract

The Treaty of Lausanne, which regulated the population exchange between the Muslim population in Greece and the Christian Greek Orthodox population in Turkey, brought about significant changes in the demographic and socio-cultural structures of both countries. Literature, reflecting historical and social events, did not remain indifferent to this phenomenon, and since the 2000s, numerous works have explored the population exchange from various perspectives. Ahmet Yorulmaz is one of the authors who contributed to this field with his four novels published between 1997 and 2010. Born in 1932 in Ayvalık and spending his life there, Yorulmaz wrote novels that include his observations from this region, where many of the exchanged population were resettled. Yorulmaz’s novels vividly depict the lives of the exchanged populations in Crete and Ayvalık, highlighting the socio-cultural conflicts and challenges of adaptation they experienced in two different geographies. This study examines the phenomenon of population exchange in Ahmet Yorulmaz’s novels through the lens of the conflict model. The conflict model, a functional framework for interpreting interdisciplinary studies, provides suitable tools for understanding the complex structure of migration through micro, meso, and macro levels of conflict. Yorulmaz's works, with their rich examples of various conflict levels, help us comprehend the multilayered nature of migration.

Özet

Yunanistan'daki Müslüman nüfusla Türkiye'deki Hıristiyan Rum nüfusun mübadelesini düzenleyen Lozan Anlaşması, her iki ülkenin demografik ve sosyo-kültürel yapısında önemli değişiklikler yaratmıştır.
