Abstract

In this study, it is aimed to analyze the relationship between education expenditures, foreign direct investments, economic growth, gross fixed capital formation, trade openness rate and economic complexity in Turkiye for the period covering 1995-2019. For this purpose, Phillips-Perron unit root test and ARDL bounds test approaches, which are time series analysis methods, is utilized. According to the results of the ARDL bounds test, it is concluded that there is a long-term relationship between the variables. According to ARDL short-term and long-term coefficient results, it is seen that education expenditures, foreign direct investments and economic growth have positive effects on economic complexity in both the short and long term. On the other hand, it is concluded that the trade openness rate reduces economic complexity in both the short and long term. In the case of Turkiye, policymakers should increase education expenditures if they want to increase economic complexity.
