When we look at the research on Munīf, who especially draws attention as a novelist, it has been determined that his storytelling has remained in the background. Although they were written in the early period of her literary life, it is seen that the delay in their publication after her death caused a delay in the work on her stories and storytelling. These stories play an important role in shaping the author's literary identity and creating an accumulation of inspiration for his novels. In this context, the study aims to examine Munīf’s story The Last Days of August, which is included in his story collection, and to emphasize both the literary value of Munīf’s storytelling and his competence in this genre, and to raise awareness in this direction by underlining the need for a more comprehensive evaluation of his place in Arabic literature and to address this issue in a multifaceted manner. In this regard, after providing information about Abdurrahman Munīf’s life and literary personality, his story, in which the social and individual elements identified in his subtext are reflected with social criticism and symbolic elements, is examined in terms of form and essence with the text-dependent examination method. In this section, firstly, the intermediary elements used within the framework of the fiction technique in the story are identified, each of which is evaluated and examined in terms of its function in the fiction, the way it was handled, the view it represented, defended or criticized within a cause-effect relationship and supported with original inferences. Abdurrahman Munîf, toplumsal sorunları eserlerine yansıtan bir yazar olarak Arap ve dünya edebiyatında saygın bir konum elde etmiştir. Özellikle romancı kimliğiyle dikkatleri üzerine çeken Munîf ile ilgili araştırmalara bakıldığında hikâyeciliğinin geri planda kaldığı tespit edilmiştir. Yazın hayatının ilk döneminde kaleme alınsalar da vefatından sonra yayınlanmaları dolayısıyla yaşanan gecikmenin hikâyeleri ve hikâyeciliği üzerindeki çalışmaların da gecikmesine neden olduğu görülmektedir. Bu hikâyeler yazarın edebi kimliğinin şekillenmesinde ve romanlarına ilham veren bir birikim oluşturmasında önemli bir rol oynamaktadır. Bu bağlamda çalışmada Munîf’in hikâye koleksiyonunda yer alan Ağustosun Son Günleri adlı hikâyesi incelenerek hem Munîf’in hikâyeciliğinin edebi değerine ve bu türdeki yetkinliğine vurgu yapılmış hem de Arap edebiyatındaki yerinin daha kapsamlı biçimde yapılacak değerlendirmelerle çok yönlü olarak ele alınması gerektiğinin altı çizilerek bu yönde bir farkındalık oluşturmak amaçlanmıştır.
