Abstract
Aim: This study was conducted to examine the relationship between spiritual well-being and comfort levels in patients undergoing hemodialysis. Materials and Method: Designed as a descriptive, cross-sectional, and correlational study, it was carried out between December 2024 and January 2025 with 251 hemodialysis patients in Istanbul. Data were collected through face-to-face interviews using the “Personal Information Form,” “Modified Charlson Comorbidity Index,” “Spiritual Well-Being Scale,” and the “Hemodialysis Comfort Scale-II.” Results: The mean score of the Spiritual Well-Being Scale was 30.36±12.15, with sub-dimension scores as follows: Meaning 10.54±4.48, Peace 9.43±4.27, and Faith 9.91±3.62. The mean score of the Hemodialysis Comfort Scale-II was 93.8±13.79, with sub-dimension scores: Physical Ease 12.86±4.00, Physical Relief 17.08±3.14, Psycho-Spiritual Relief 28.83±7.89, Psycho-Spiritual Empowerment 16.95±3.77, Environmental Empowerment 4.45±2.40, and Socio-Cultural Relief 13.64±2.39. Regression analysis revealed that spiritual well-being (β=0.616, p<0.001) had a statistically significant positive effect on hemodialysis comfort levels. The independent variable included in the regression model accounted for approximately 38% of the total variance in comfort levels (p<0.01). Conclusion: It was determined that the patients’ spiritual well-being and comfort levels were moderate, and as spiritual well-being increased, so did their comfort levels. The findings suggest that enhancing spiritual well-being may support and improve the comfort of patients undergoing hemodialysis.
