Abstract

Objective: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic autoimmune disease that affects approximately 1% of the world's population. It is a disease characterized by bone and cartilage deterioration, pain, and inflammation in many parts of the body, and can even result in death in the future. Since its pathogenesis is not fully understood, it cannot be fully treated, and the aim of the current treatment is to prevent irreversible joint damage and to improve the quality of life of patients by providing symptomatic relief. Standard treatments are inadequate due to reasons such as not being target specific, frequency of application, increased doses, systemic or local side effects, and tolerance of patients to drugs. This review provides information on potential nano-sized drug delivery systems to overcome the shortcomings of current treatments for rheumatoid arthritis. Result and Discussion: Nanotechnology is used in many areas in the health sector, from treating diseases to early diagnosis. Nanotechnological drug delivery systems are designed to reduce side effects and provide more effective treatments by directing them to the disease area as much as possible. Thus, by eliminating the disadvantages of traditional treatment, it offers new target-specific, effective and safe treatment opportunities with active and passive targeting strategies.
