Abstract

This study aims to examine the relationship between psychological resilience and compassion in prospective religious personnel from a descriptive and correlational perspective. The study sought to answer the questions: “What are the levels of psychological resilience and compassion among prospective religious officials?” and “Do these levels differ according to variables such as age, gender, marital status, parental attitude, number of children, and the form of religious education?” The data for the study were obtained from 345 prospective religious officials continuing their education at Diyanet Academies. Participants were administered a “Personal Information Form,” an “Adult Psychological Resilience Scale,” and an “Adult Compassion Scale.” The data obtained were analyzed and interpreted. According to the findings, the psychological resilience and compassion levels of the prospective religious officials were found to be high. However, no significant relationship was found between psychological resilience and compassion. Psychological resilience levels differed according to age, father's attitude, number of children, and the method of religious education; they did not differ according to gender, marital status, or mother's attitude. Compassion levels were found to vary according to age, marital status, parental attitude, and number of children; however, they did not vary according to gender or the form of religious education received. Psychological resilience and compassion serve functions such as performing one's profession diligently, increasing job satisfaction, and reducing the risk of burnout. These qualities are necessary for prospective religious officials to be able to continue their duties in the long term and be useful to society. Considering the roles of religious officials, such as providing spiritual and psychological support to individuals in society, the importance of this study is highlighted by the fact that the psychological resilience and compassion levels of prospective religious officials are the subject of this study.
