Abstract

The study aimed to examine the primary and secondary school social studies curricula within the framework of the “The Century of Türkiye Education Model” based on inter-program components. In line with this purpose, document analysis was chosen as the research method. The data source of the study consists of the Social Studies Curriculum published by the Ministry of National Education in 2024. The documents included in the data source were analyzed using the descriptive analysis technique. The study found that social-emotional learning skills and values in the social studies curriculum were addressed with varying intensities across grade levels. While the self-awareness skill, such as “Self-Recognition,” was limitedly emphasized, the self-management skill, “Self-Regulation,” was consistently highlighted across all grades. Within the framework of virtue-value-action, a concentration on values was observed in the 4th grade, with “Justice” and “Patriotism” emerging as prominent values addressed in all grades. In terms of literacy skills, information literacy and digital literacy were found to be more prominently covered, particularly in the 6th and 7th grades. However, skills such as sustainability, art, and financial literacy were found to have limited emphasis, highlighting the need for greater integration. The study emphasizes the need to enhance the integration of less-covered skills, such as sustainability, into the curriculum while maintaining a balanced approach to addressing critical social-emotional skills and values across grade levels. These results demonstrate that of the Social Studies Curriculum Program prepared within the scope of The Century of Türkiye Education Model ensures horizontal and vertical consistency in terms of inter-program components. Furthermore, while values are presented within the framework of “virtue-value-action” skills are also designed within a cyclical structure, using an inter-program approach and linking them to learning-teaching practices, while keeping their framework as broad as possible (social-emotional learning skills, subject skills, conceptual skills, literacy skills). This greatly supports program development and instructional design.
