Abstract

In contemporary Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) techniques, data acquisition is predominantly conducted through two-dimensional Cartesian sampling. However, this sampling method can lead to issues such as gaps between slices. Three-dimensional acquisition involves stimulating the entire volume to be imaged with a Radio Frequency (RF) pulse and mapping the received signals onto a three-dimensional k-space. This sampling can be performed using Cartesian coordinates, but non-Cartesian trajectories are often preferred for their time efficiency. In this study, an innovative MRI sequence that samples the three-dimensional k-space using non-Cartesian concentric shell trajectories has been developed. This sampling method comprises 32 concentric shells of varying radii and incorporates undersampling techniques to enhance data acquisition speed. The developed MRI sequence is capable of efficiently filling the three-dimensional k-space with its concentric shell structure. This sequence has been subjected to MRI simulations and successfully tested. Consequently, a sequence capable of completing three-dimensional acquisition in less than one second, effectively filling the k-space, has been successfully developed. These findings offer an innovative alternative to current practices in MRI and advance research in this field.
