Abstract

The aim of this study is to explore the potential and feasibility of developing mycotourism (mushroom-oriented tourism) as a type of nature-based tourism in the Fethiye district. This study adopts a qualitative research approach, and an online form consisting of open-ended questions was sent to 10 professional tourist guides working in the district. Participants were asked to respond to the questions in their own words. The findings indicate that while ecotourism and nature-based tours are partially practiced in the region, mushroom hunting has not yet emerged as a widely accepted tourist product. Participants stated that mushroom tourism has the potential to provide an engaging experience for tourists; however, they also expressed concerns related to insufficient knowledge, limited demand, and environmental sustainability. Regarding the applicability of mycotourism, the importance of specialization courses, raising awareness, local community involvement, and careful planning was emphasized. This study contributes to the emerging field of mycotourism in Türkiye and provides suggestions for diversifying nature-based tourism.
