Özet

Amaç: inhaler Steroidlerin nitrik oksit (NO) üzerine etkisini değerlendirmek. Sonuç: NO düzeyinin, antiinflamatuvar ilaçların et-kinliğini göstermede ve steroide dirençli astma ol-gularını belirlemede faydalı olacağı görüşüne varılmıştır.

Abstract

Objectives: To evaluate the effect of inhaler steroid therapy on nitric oxide (NO) levels. Patients and Methods: Twenty patients with mild in-termittent asthma were prospectively assigned to re-ceive fluticasone propionate 500 ug/daily for six months. NO levels in serum and bronchoalveolar lav-age were estimated before and after therapy using the nitrite/nitrate calorimetric assay. Fifteen healthy nonsmokers were included as controls. Results: In asthmatic patients, NO and nitrite levels were found higher when compared with healthy controls (p=0.006 and p=0.000, respectively). With the inhaler steroid therapy, NO level in the bron-choalveolar lavage showed significant decrease (p=0.001). Conclusion: We conclude that NO levels may be helpful in showing the efficacy of antiinflammatory agents and in determining asthmatic patients who develop resistance to steroids.
