Gecekondu Turizmi: Bir Çözüm Mü? Yoksa Bir Problem Mi?

Özet

Zaman içinde yaşanan teknolojik, siyasi, ekonomik ve kültürel değişim ve gelişmelere bağlı olarak insanların ihtiyaç ve isteklerinde değişimler ortaya çıkmaktadır. Turizm açısından bu değişim ise, insanın yeni ve denenmemiş olanı görme ve tecrübe etme isteğini arttırmaktadır. Bu durumun doğal bir sonucu olarak turistik destinasyonların cezbedici güzelliklerinin yanı sıra turistlerin bu destinasyonların “öteki yüzü” olarak adlandırılan gecekondu, varoş, getto gibi mahrumiyet bölgelerine olan ilgileri de artmaya başlanmış ve bugün “gecekondu turizmi” olarak adlandırılan turizm türünün ortaya çıkmasına imkân vermiştir. Gecekondu bölgelerine olan ilginin artması, ilk zamanlarda sivil toplum kuruluşları tarafından gecekondu bölgelerine gerçekleştirilen turların daha sonra kâr amacı güden tur operatörleri tarafından yapılmaya başlanmasına yol açmıştır. Bu durum ise çeşitli tartışmaları da beraberinde getirmiştir. Literatür taraması temeline dayanan bu çalışmada gecekondu turizmi kavramı ortaya çıkışı, gecekondu turizmi destinasyonları ele alınmış ve gecekondu turizmi ile ilgili pozitif ve negatif görüşlerden yola çıkılarak gecekondu turizminin bir çözüm mü, yoksa problem mi olduğu sorusuna yanıt aranmaya çalışılmıştır.

Abstract

Changes in desires and the needs of the people emerge, depending on the technological, political, economic and cultural changes and developments that have taken place over time. In terms of tourism, this change increases the desire of people to see and experience what is new and untried. As a natural consequence of this situation, besides the attractiveness of tourist destinations tourists interest in the deprived areas, called slums, suburbs, ghettos, which are named as the "other side" of these destinations has begun to increase and it has enabled the emergence of a tourism model called “slum tourism” today. Growing interest in slum areas lead to profit-oriented tour operators organize the slum tours which were organized by non-govermantal organizations in the beggining. This situation has brought various discussions with itself. In this study which is based on literature review, the emergence of slum tourism concept, slum tourism destinations are mentioned and it has been tried to find out whether the solution of the slums tourism is a solution or a problem by evaluating positive and negative opinions about slum tourism.
