THE SIGNIFICANCE OF LITERATURE IN TRANSMITTING VALUES, CONSTRUCTING ROLE MODELS AND EDUCATING THE WILL

Özet

Farklı insanlık maceralarıyla insanı insana anlatan bir sanat olan edebiyat, edebî eserler yoluyla insanın, özellikle gençlerin yaşantılarını da zenginleştirir. Çağdaş eğitimin önemli merkez noktalarından biri olan edebiyattan yararlanma, bireyin kendisini geliştirme, iyi ilişkiler kurabilme, kendisini ifade edebilme, dil becerilerini geliştirme, kendisiyle ve çevresiyle barışık bir şekilde yaşamasını sağlama gibi özellikler bakımından bireysel gelişime katkıda bulunan önemli bir eğitim alanıdır. Edebiyat eseri, insana insandan haber veren ve bir yaşantının tanıklığını yapan sanatsal yaratıcılığın ve varoluş bilgisinin birlikteliğinden oluşan bir yapıdır. Bir öyküde, romanda, biyografide, seyahat eserinde, anı yazısında varoluşun tanıklığını yapan bir bakışla karşılaşırız. Bu, edebiyat eserlerini aynı zamanda, tarihsel ve toplumsal belgeler haline getiren bir özelliktir. İnsanı, metinle, metindeki varoluş bilgisi ve sanatsal yaratıcılık ile karşılaştırmayı amaçlayan edebiyatta bu karşılaşma "anlama" ve "empati" kavramı merkezinde gerçekleşir. Dilemek, istemek mânâsında bir kelime olan "irade", bir şeyi yapmak veya yapmamak konusunda karar verebilme yeteneğidir. Akıl ve ruh gibi insana has özelliklerden biri olan irade gücü sayesinde insan, iyi ile kötüyü seçip yapabilme yeteneğine sahiptir. İrade eğitimi ile kişiye hem dış dünyayla ve onun zorluklarıyla mücadele etme, hem de kendi iç dünyası ile duyguları, düşünceleri ve kararlarıyla baş edebilme yeteneği kazandırılır. İradeyi güçlü kılmak, zorluklarla mücadele etmek ve hayatta başarılı olabilmek için irade eğitimine önem vermek gerekir. Edebî eserler yoluyla bu yönde olumlu davranış değişikliği meydana getirebilmek için aşamalı analitik yaklaşım oldukça önemlidir. İrade eğitimi ışığında örneklenen edebiyat karakterleri eşliğinde insana ve hayata dair metin-altı sorular kurmacanın odağında işlenerek analiz edilmeğe çalışıldığında, irade eğitimi ve pedagojik açıdan sadece Mustafa İnan'ın konu edildiği belgesel-romanda (Oğuz Atay; Bir Bilim Adamının Romanı) bile, onun gibi imkânsızlıklar içinde yetişen ve bir irade örneği sergilemiş insanların ortak hayat hikayesini bulabiliriz

Abstract

Literature, which is a form of art that tells the stories of the people to other people by different adventures of humanity, enriches the lives of the individuals, especially the youth, through literary works. Being an important center of education, literature is indeed an educative field that provides certain features for individuals such as the abilities of attaining self-development, constructing healthy relationships with others, expressing theirs elves, improving linguistic skills and living in peace with themselves and with their environments. A literary work, which witnesses life experiences and tells them to other people, is a construction of the unity of artistic creativity and onthological knowledge. In a novel, a story, a biography, a travel writing or in a memoir, we encounter an inside perspective that directly observes the state of being. This is a significant trait that turns literary works into historical and societal documents as well. As literature aims to confront the individual with the onthological knowledge and artistic creativity in a text, this confrontation occurs around the concepts of “understanding” and “empathy”. Will, which linguistically refers to the meanings of desire and wish, is the ability to decide on whether to do or not to do something. Just like mind and spirit, will is a feature peculiar to human beings, and it gives away the chance of differentiating and choosing between the good and the bad. With the education of will, the individual is provided with the skills to struggle with both the difficulties of the outside world, and the feelings, thoughts and decisions of his inside world. In order to strengthen the will, to deal with problems or difficulties and to succeed in life, it is important to stress the education of will. They are all vastly related to the education of will that is to be carried out systematically and with discipline. In this study, it is aimed to analyze the off-text questions related to life and people in the focus of fiction and with the company of the literary characters that are exemplified in the light of will education. In this regard, even in the documentary-novel (Oğuz Atay; Bir Bilim Adamının Romanı) that mentions only Mustafa İnan in terms of will education and pedagogic; we can find the common story of the people like him who grew up with narrow possibilities and yet managed to pursue an instance of success through their will
