Abstract

This study aimed to examine the relationship between preschool teachers’ burnout levels and the strategies they use to enhance children’s happiness. Using a correlational survey design, the study included 230 preschool teachers from Türkiye’s seven geographical regions who were recruited through snowball sampling. Data were collected using the “Personal Information Form”, the “Burnout Scale–Short Form”, and the “Scale of Happiness Strategies for Children Used by Preschool Teachers”. Data were analyzed using independent-samples t-tests, one-way ANOVA, the Mann–Whitney U test, Pearson correlation analysis, and regression analysis; Cohen’s d was used to determine effect sizes. The findings revealed a significant negative relationship between teachers’ burnout levels and their use of happiness-enhancing strategies for children and showed that burnout significantly predicted the use of these strategies. In addition, teachers who had willingly chosen the teaching profession had lower levels of burnout and used these strategies more frequently. Private-school teachers reported higher levels of using strategies aimed at satisfying children’s needs and overall happiness-enhancing strategies than public-school teachers. In contrast, teachers’ burnout levels and use of happiness-enhancing strategies did not differ significantly according to years of professional experience or class size. The findings highlight the importance of implementing measures to reduce teacher burnout and expanding training content focused on happiness-enhancing strategies.
