Abstract

Firms have preferred lean or agile manufacturing systems to mass production in order to response to changing competitive factor and environmental pressure. Agility described as a capability of meeting unpredicted and changing customer needs with least delivery time, high quality, and low cost can be evaluated as an important advantage which obtains to succesful in global competitive environment. Determining the effect of competitive capacity and agility drivers on firm performance and the impact of competitive capacity on agility capacity is the purpose of this study. To assess these relationships, it was conducted a questionnaire survey on ISO 500 firms and was tested three hypotheses with Structural Equation Model. The results of the analysis show that agility drivers and competitive capacity have significant effects on firm performance. The fact that competitive capacity has a significant effect on agility drivers is also explored.
