A RESEARCH ON THE PREFERENCES OF TEACHERS WHO WANT TO BE PRINCIPAL FOR THE FIRST TIME

İLK DEFA MÜDÜR YARDIMCI OLMAK İSTEYEN ÖĞRETMENLERİN İDARECİ OLMA TERCİHLERİ ÜZERİNDE BİR İNCELEME

Abstract

The duty of assistant principal, which is the first step of school management levels; especially connecting teachers, parents and students with school principals; it is a task that takes a lot of time for the development of the school and the quality of education. The purpose of this research; the aim of this study is to examine the preferences of teachers who want to be assistant principals for the first time. In the research; qualitative research method was used to address the underlying reasons for teachers' desire to be administrators. The study group of the research consists of 10 teachers working in primary, secondary and high schools in Tuzla district of Istanbul province. Maximum diversity sample type was preferred in determining the study group. Descriptive analysis in revealing the themes obtained from the qualitative data obtained as a result of the interview; content analysis was also carried out to determine sub-themes and codes. When the data obtained from the interviews were analyzed, the teachers' thoughts on being a manager were "Current Situation and Self- Evaluation." and under four sub-categories as “Reasons for wanting to be a manager, Attitude of Education Managers, Professional Evaluation and Innovative Practices”. As a result of the research, one of the most important factors in the decision of teachers to become administrators; It is seen that they feel professionally exhausted.

Özet

Okul yöneticiliği kademelerinin ilk basamağı olan müdür yardımcılığı görevi; özellikle öğretmenler, veliler ve öğrenciler ile okul müdürleri arasında bağ kuran; okulun gelişimi ve eğitimin kalitesi için ciddi yoğun mesai harcayan bir görevdir. Bu araştırmanın amacı; ilk defa müdür yardımcısı olmak isteyen öğretmenlerin idareci olma tercihlerinin incelenmesidir. Araştırmada; öğretmenlerin idareci olma isteklerinin altında yatan sebepleri ele almak adına araştırma yöntemlerinden nitel araştırma kullanılmıştır. Bu araştırmanın çalışma grubu, İstanbul ili Tuzla ilçesinde yer alan ilkokul, ortaokul ve liselerde görev yapan 10 öğretmenden oluşturmaktadır. Çalışma grubunun belirlenmesinde maksimum çeşitlilik örneklem türü tercih edilmiştir. Görüşme sonucunda ulaşılan nitel verilerden elde edilen temaların ortaya çıkarılmasında betimsel analiz; alt tema ve kodların belirlenmesinde de içerik analizi yapılmıştır. Görüşmelerden elde edilen veriler analiz edildiğinde öğretmenlerin yönetici olma adına düşünceleri “Mevcut Durum ve Öz değerlendirme.” adı altında iki kategori ve “Yönetici Olmayı İsteme Gerekçeleri, Eğitim Yöneticilerinin Tutumu, Mesleki Değerlendirme ve Yenilikçi Uygulamalar” olarak dört alt kategori altında toplanmıştır. Yapılan araştırma sonucunda yönetici olma kararı veren öğretmenlerin bu kararı almalarında en önemli faktörlerin başında; kendilerini mesleki olarak tükenmiş hissetmeleri olduğu görülmektedir.
