The Transformation Role of Social Networks in Education eTwinning Action Example

Abstract

The aim of this study is to reveal the transformative role of eTwinning in education by examining the pedagogical effects of eTwinning activity on teachers and students in social networking websites. In this way, with this study, it is expected to clarify the educational impact of the eTwinning action both in Europe and in Turkey in the light of the literature. The compilation method was used in the study, and the publications between the years 2010-2022 were included in the literature review. The study focuses on issues like the purpose and the importance of eTwinning activity, its impact on teachers and students and its transformative role in education. In this context, the role of social networks and its impact on the target audience while using technology in education were tried to emphasized. It is important that these teacher networks, already known by many teachers in the Turkish education system, needs to be discussed in the academic dimension and should be positioned in the professional development of teachers. Based on the studies examined, the following issues can be stated: It has been observed that teachers, students and schools involved in eTwinning activities are in the process of change. Accordingly, it has been seen that the competencies of using ICT and foreign language skills of teachers and students have improved. Working in cooperation with peers have improved the social skills and motivations of teachers and students. Students and teachers have learned and used different methods and techniques by benefiting from professional development opportunities provided. And at the end of this whole process, it is seen that students which are engaged in eTwinning have been more successful in their lessons and in their social life.

Özet

Bu çalışmanın amacı sosyal ağlar özelinde eTwinning faaliyetinin öğretmen ve öğrencilere pedagojik etkisini irdeleyerek eğitimde dönüştürücü rolünü ortaya çıkarmaktır. Bu sayede, bu çalışmayla, eTwinning faaliyetinin eğitim öğretim faaliyeti etkisi üzerine alan yazın ışığında inceleyerek Avrupa’da ve Türkiye’de eğitim bağlamındaki eTwinning konulu çalışmalarda vurgulanan noktaları açıklanmak istenmektedir. Çalışmada derleme yöntemi kullanılmış olup alan yazın incelemesinde 2010-2022 yılları arasındaki yayınlara yer verilmiştir. Çalışma eTwinning faaliyetinin amacı, önemi, öğretmen ve öğrenciye etkisi ve eğitimdeki dönüştürücü rolü gibi konulara odaklanmıştır. Bu bağlamda teknolojiyi eğitimde kullanırken sosyal ağların rolü ve hedef kitle üzerindeki etkisi vurgulanmaya çalışılmıştır. Türk eğitim sisteminde birçok öğretmen tarafından bilinen bu öğretmen ağlarının, akademik boyutta tartışılması ve öğretmenlerin mesleki gelişimlerine konumlandırılması önem arz etmektedir. İncelenen çalışmalara dayalı olarak şunlar ifade edilebilir: eTwinning faaliyetlerinde yer alan öğretmen, öğrenci ve okulların bir değişim sürecine girdikleri gözlemlenmiştir. Buna bağlı olarak, öğretmen ve öğrencilerin bilişim teknolojileri kullanma yetkinliklerinin ve yabancı dil becerilerinin geliştiği, akranlarıyla işbirliği içinde sosyal becerilerinin ve motivasyonlarının arttığı, mesleki gelişim fırsatlarından yararlanarak farklı yöntem ve teknikleri öğrendikleri ve kullandıkları, tüm bu sürecin sonunda da öğrencilerin derslerinde daha başarılı oldukları görülmüştür.
