Abstract
This study examined the prediction effects of belief in a just world, trait hope, positive negative affect and social support on meaning in life. In this study, correlational quantitative method was used to determine the predictive power of a group of independent variables on a dependent variable by examining the relationships between the variables. This study was conducted with a total of 323 university students attended a state university located in the west of Turkey in 2015-2016 academic year. For this purpose, belief in a just world scale, trait hope scale, PANAS, perceived social support scale and meaning in life scale were utilized. Independent samples t-test was conducted to determine the belief in a just world, trait hope, positive and negative affect, social support and the meaning in life differed based on gender. According to the results, there was no significant difference between the participants' the belief in a just world (t (321) = .031, p > .05), their level of trait hope (t (321) = .654, p > .05), their positive and negative emotions (t (321) = -1.672, p > .05), their level of social support (t (321) = .368, p > .05), and their meaning in life (t (321) = - 1,279, p > .05) based on their gender. Standard multiple linear regression was performed to determine the predictions of participants' the belief in a just world, trait hope, positive and negative affect and social support on their meaning in life scores. According to the results, independent variables explain approximately 13% of the variance explained in meaning in life (R = .361, R 2 =.130, F (4, 318) =11.898, p =.000). When standardized regression coefficients are examined, it was seen that the belief in a just world (β = .183; p < .01) made the greatest contribution to the model, following trait hope (β = .152; p < .05), positive and negative affect (β = .234; p < .05), and social support (β = 120, p < .05).
Özet
umu ve sosyal desteğin yaşamda anlamı yordama gücü incelenmiştir. Bu araştırmada nicel araştırma yöntemlerinden yordayıcı korelasyonel araştırma modeli kullanılmıştır. Araştırma 2015-2016 eğitim-öğretim yılında Türkiye’nin Batısında yer alan bir devlet üniversitesinde öğrenim görmekte olan toplam 323 üniversite öğrencisiyle yürütülmüştür. Katılımcılara adil dünya inancı ölçeği, sürekli umut ölçeği, PANAS, algılanan sosyal destek ölçeği ve yaşamda anlam ölçeği uygulanmıştır. Adil dünya inancı, sürekli umut, pozitif ve negatif duygu durumu, sosyal destek ve yaşamda anlam düzeylerinin cinsiyete göre farklılaşma durumunu belirlemek için bağımsız gruplar t testi yapılmıştır. Elde edilen sonuçlara göre katılımcıların cinsiyetlerine göre adil dünya inançları (t (321) = ,031, p > 0,05), sürekli umut düzeyleri (t (321) = ,654, p > 0,05), pozitif ve negatif duygu durumları (t (321) = -1,672, p > 0,05), Sosyal destek düzeyleri (t (321) = ,368, p > 0,05) ve yaşamda anlam düzeyleri (t (321) = -1,279, p > 0,05) arasında anlamlı bir farklılık olmadığı görülmüştür. Katılımcıların adil dünya inancı, sürekli umut, pozitif ve negatif duygu durumu ve sosyal desteğin yaşamda anlamı ne derece yordadığını belirlemek amacıyla standart çoklu doğrusal regresyon yapılmıştır. Elde edilen sonuçlara göre bağımsız değişkenler yaşamda anlamdaki varyansın yaklaşık %13’ünü açıklamaktadır (R= ,361, R 2 =,130, F (4, p=,000). Standartlaştırılmış regresyon katsayıları 318) =11,898, incelendiğinde adil dünya inancının (β= ,183; p < ,01) modele en büyük katkıyı sağladığı, bunu sürekli umut (β= ,152; p < ,05), pozitif negatif duygu durumu (β= ,234; p < ,05) ve sosyal desteğin (β= ,120; p < ,05) takip ettiği görülmektedir.
