Humor, Critical Thinking and The Wisdom: Nasreddin Hodja

Abstract

Nasreddin Hodja has been a symbol of humor and critical thinking that is the basis of science for approximately eight hundred years. In one sense, Nasreddin Hodja, a wise sage of Turkish world, has educated many followers at his wisdom school for centuries. The problems and secrets of life can be solved by humor and critical thinking. They create and nourish each other. Analyzing life in reverse and creating original questions and answers is the foundation of Nasreddin Hodja School. All aspects of life constitute the subject of Nasreddin Hodja anecdotes. While the greate sufis such as Yunus Emre and Mevlana being Hodja’s contemporaries, symbolize the heart of Anatolian people, Nasreddin Hodja is symbol of the mind. The harmony of mind and soul constitutes Turkish folk philosophy. The way of wisdom is opened by this harmony. In short, the aim of this artcile is to study the harmony of humor and critical thinking/ heart and mind of Turkish people, using the memory of Nasreddin Hodja anecdotes.

Yaklaşık sekiz yüz yıldır bilimin de temelini oluşturan eleştirel düşüncenin Nasreddin Hoca’nın bilgeler bilgesi kimliğiyle sembolleştiği görülür. Nasreddin Hoca, bilgelik okulunda asırlardır yeni bilgeler yetiştirmeye devam etmektedir. Mizah ve eleştirel düşünce, yaşamın sorunlarının çözülmesini ve dahası sırlarına ulaşılmasını sağlamaktadır. Mizahsız eleştirel düşünce, eleştirel düşüncesiz mizah var olamaz. Nasreddin Hoca, torunlarını bilgelik yolunda eğitirken yaşamın tersten okunmasını ve soru sormayı öğreterek işe başlar. Eleştirel düşüncenin temelini, özgün soru ve cevaplar yaratmak oluşturur. Nasreddin Hoca fıkra belleğinde yaşamın tüm yanları sorgulanır. Çağdaşları Yunus Emre ve Mevlana gönlü, Nasreddin Hoca ise mizahı, eleştirel düşünceyi ve aklı temsil eder. Akıl- gönül birlikteliği ve uzlaşması, bu zirve şahsiyetlerle sağlanır. Akıl gönlü, gönül aklı besler hâle gelir. Türk düşünce sisteminin temeli de bu birliktelik üzerinde gelişmiştir. Bu ortaklık, dahası uyum, bilgeliğe ulaşmayı sağlar. Özetle bu çalışmada, Nasreddin Hoca merkezinde mizah ve eleştirel düşüncenin bilgeliğe ulaşmadaki önemi belirlenmeye ve tartışılmaya çalışılmaktadır.
