Views of Social Studıes Teachers Related to Placing the Concepts of War and Peace in Programs and Books

Abstract
The main purpose of this research is to reveal social studies teachers’ views related to the usage of the terms war and peace in programs and books. The research was conducted in accordance with phenomonoligical pattern, a qualitative research method. The study group consisted of 15 teachers that worked in middle schools from Sakarya in 2014-2015 academic year. The semi-structured interview form, developed by the researcher, was used to collect data. The data obtained through the interview were evaluated via descriptive analysis. Social studies teachers think that the concepts of war and peace are used superficially in their teaching programs and books.
Özet
Bu araştırmanın temel amacı, sosyal bilgiler öğretmenlerinin savaş ve barış kavramlarının Sosyal Bilgiler ders programı ve Sosyal Bilgiler ders kitaplarında yer verilişine ilişkin görüşlerini ortaya koymaktır. Araştırma, nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden fenomonolojik desene uygun olarak yürütülmüştür. Araştırmanın çalışma grubunu; Sakarya ili içerisinde kolay ulaşılabilirlik esasıyla seçilen 2014 - 2015 eğitim-öğretim yılında ilköğretim kademesinde eğitim veren 15 sosyal bilgiler öğretmeni oluşturmuştur. Veri toplamak için araştırmacı tarafından geliştirilmiş olan yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme formu kullanılmıştır. Görüşmeden elde edilen veriler betimsel analize tabi tutularak değerlendirilmiştir. Sosyal Bilgiler öğretmenleri öğretim programı ve kitaplarında savaş ve barış kavramlarının yüzeysel olarak verildiği sonucuna ulaşılmıştır.
