Globalization as A Social and Economic Condition: New Dilemmas-New Possibilities in Education

Abstract
The concept of globalization which enmarks our age and debates it has bring about ischaracterized by a plea of transformations in social and economic sphere. One of thefundamental conveyers of globalization and new life styles and thinking styles mentionedwithin the concept of globalization is the educational system. Given this point, education isone of the fields in which globalization debates broadly take place both because it is one of theinstitutions mostly affected from the politics of globalization and it is seen as an organgeneralizing the politics of globalization. By this study the concept of globalization and itsreflections on education is examined in terms of social and economic factors, the changes inthe understanding of modernism by means of globalization and new line of thought it hasbring about is undertaken and the educational consequences of neoliberal economy politics isdiscussed from a critical point of view. In the last chapter of the study, innovations and newpossibilities in pedagogy offered by globalization is evaluated and the possible contributionsof pedagogues to the new orientations in educational policies is discussed.Key words: Globalization, neoliberalism, modernism, educational policies.
Özet
Özellikle içinde bulunduğumuz çağa damgasını vuran küreselleşme kavramı ve beraberinde getirdiği tartışmalar, sosyal ve ekonomik alandaki pek çok dönüşüm ile karakterize olmaktadır. Küreselleşme ve küreselleşmeyle birlikte anılan yeni yaşama ve düşünme biçimlerinin toplumsal yaşamdaki en temel taşıyıcılarından biri de eğitim sistemidir. Bu anlamıyla eğitim, hem küreselleşme politikalarından en fazla etkilenen toplumsal kurumlardan biri, hem de yeni küresel politikaların yaygınlaştırılma aracı olarak küreselleşme tartışmalarının en yaygın biçimde sürdürüldüğü alanlardan biridir. Bu çalışma ile küreselleşme kavramı ve bu kavramın eğitime yansımaları sosyal ve ekonomik açılardan irdelenmekte, küreselleşme ve beraberinde getirdiği yeni düşünce akımları ile birlikte modernizm anlayışının değişimi üzerinde durulmakta ve neoliberal ekonomi politikalarının eğitimsel sonuçları eleştirel bir bakış açısıyla tartışılmaktadır. Çalışmanın son bölümünde ise küreselleşme kavramının eğitim bilimine getirdiği yenilikler ve sunduğu yeni olanaklar değerlendirilerek, eğitim politikalarındaki yeni yönelimlere eğitim bilimcilerin ne gibi katkılar sağlayabileceği tartışılmaktadır.
