An Evaluation On The Relationship Between Foreign Direct Investment and Economic Growth: Turkey (1995-2017)

Abstract
In this study, the relationship between foreign direct investment and economic growth in Turkey is examined for the 1995-2017 period. The short-term causality relationship between variables is investigated with Toda-Yamamoto causality test, the existence and direction of long-term relationship between variables are examined by the Johansen co-integration test and by the causality analysis based on the Vector Error Correction Granger Causality test, respectively. As a result, one way causality relationship is found from foreign direct investment to economic growth in Turkey in long term.
Özet
Bu çalışmada, 1995-2017 döneminde Türkiye’de doğrudan yabancı sermaye yatırımları ile ekonomik büyüme arasındaki ilişki incelenmiştir. Toda-Yamamoto nedensellik testi ile kısa dönemli nedensellik ilişkisi araştırılırken, değişkenler arasındaki uzun dönemli ilişkinin varlığı ve bu ilişkinin yönü sırasıyla Johansen Ko-entegrasyon testi ve Hata Düzeltme Modeline dayalı nedensellik analizi ile incelenmiştir. Çalışma sonucunda Türkiye’de uzun dönemde doğrudan yabancı sermaye yatırımlarında ekonomik büyümeye doğru tek yönlü bir nedensellik ilişkisi bulunmuştur.
